Adekunle Gold Celebrates Heritage on New Album ‘Fújì’
Nigerian superstar Adekunle Gold has released his sixth studio album, “Fújì,” a profound tribute to the Yoruba oral music tradition that shaped his childhood. Named after the improvisational genre born in late 1960s Nigeria, the project reflects Gold’s deep cultural roots and personal journey, merging nostalgic sounds with contemporary Afrobeats.
“Fújì is just the sound of Lagos,” Gold shared with Apple Music. “It’s ingrained in me.” The album builds on the rhythmic foundations of fújì, apala, and tungba, with tracks like “Big Fish” recounting his rise to fame and “Many People” celebrating his success. Songs such as “My Love Is the Same” and “Believe” explore themes of family and romance, all while honoring the storytelling essence of Yoruba tradition.
