Ghana’s Camidoh, The First Afrobeats Artist To Perform On New York City’s “Chinatown Sound” Series

London, England (Thursday, 11 July 2024) — On Wednesday (July 10, 2024), New York City’s Chinatown Sound released its first episode highlighting an Afrobeats star. The first to bat was Ghanaian singer-songwriter Camidoh! The “Sugarcane” crooner performed an acoustic version of his recent track “NLF (Breakfast)” — a hypnotic tune about a recent breakup that made him hire a therapist. On the busy streets of Lower Manhattan, he wore a velour sweatsuit with brown shades and a pair of construction boots — and gave his all in an acapella presentation of the new track.

The official lyric video “NLF (Breakfast)” crossed 1 million views on YouTube three weeks after its release.

New York City native journalist, celebrity publicist and music supervisor Richardine Bartee thanked the platform for its support in a post on her X account. She put it together when the Aflao-born artist was in New York City during his press run.

Before now, the platform mostly supported American rappers like Melvoni (Epic Records), Giant Music’s new signee Esparo (labelmates Cash Cobain and Mike Will Made-It), and Roc Nations’ HDBeenDope and his fellow Roc Nation artist Reuben Vincent — of Liberian descent. It is the first time the esteemed video platform — Chinatown Sound — features an Afrobeats artist!
