Playlist : Kumerica Vs. G4 Boyz

It’s quite astounding to see a genre like ‘Drill’ sprouting in the Kumasi by a collective with name ‘Kumerica’. One of the biggest songs in Ghana right now is a drill song by Kumasi based artists – Dead Peepol and Rich Kant titled ‘Otan Hunu’.  Another song is making waves on social media with the same drill sentiments titled ‘Akatafoc’. This is a song by Kawabanga featuring O’Kenneth, Reggie & Jay Bahd , all based in Kumasi.

Without doubt , it’s evident there’s a Pop Smoke influence in there. The demise of American rapper , Pop Smoke exposed a lot of people to his music out here in Ghana. His highly recognizable worldwide hit ‘Dior’ became a scheme for rappers who wanted to join the drill culture. Till date , fast-rising rappers not just in Ghana are churning out freestyles with verses laid on the instrumental for ‘Dior’.

A lot of attention has been turned to these drill rappers in Kumasi. Very impressed with the songs they have put out so far , we decided to curate a playlist with their songs alongside that of G4 Boyz.

G4 Boyz is New York rap duo consisting of Ice Baby and Buggy, two brothers of Nigerian and Ghanaian descent from Staten Island. Together, they’ve developed a flashy, energetic blend of trap and gangsta rap, with lyrical topics regularly focusing on money, sex, and violence. The duo have collaborated with many well-known rap artists, including Lil Wayne, Migos, and Waka Flocka Flame, and have issued several mixtapes, including 2017’s The African Plug.
