The Originator Returns: Samini Drops Long-Awaited 16-Track Album ‘ORIGIN8A’
Renowned Ghanaian reggae/dancehall pioneer Samini has finally released his highly anticipated new album, ‘ORIGIN8A’ (pronounced Originator)—a title that is both intentional and symbolic, reflecting his journey, influence, and enduring relevance in African music.
Visually, the album artwork is steeped in mystique, featuring an 8 ball, sound waves, and pulse waves, conveying the idea that music is mysterious and makes the heart beat. The number 8 carries deep meaning across cultures: new beginnings, infinity, creation, a complete octave, and good fortune. The 8 ball adds a playful layer, symbolising destiny, risk, and foresight.
Musically, ‘ORIGIN8A’ stays true to Samini’s signature fusion of reggae, dancehall, and Afro pop, following the Pan-African anthem “Chaana” featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir. The 16-track album enlists a powerful lineup of protégés and collaborators, including Stonebwoy, Mugeez, Kofi Kinaata, M.anifest, Kaakie, Smallgod, Kuami Eugene, and Mix Master Garzy.
More than a collection of songs, ‘ORIGIN8A’ is both a celebration and a challenge—a reminder of where the sound came from and a call to keep pushing it forward.
